Statement from Speaker Krowinski Following Governor Scott's Veto of Act 250 Modernization Bill
"Our Act 250 modernization bill streamlines housing development while preserving our Vermont landscape. The Governor has stated that the bill focuses too much on conservation, but let me be absolutely clear – this bill is a balanced approach to be pro-environment and pro-development. It incorporates recommendations from a broad coalition with input from a wide variety of Vermonters and communities across the state. I’m disappointed that the Governor has chosen to stop showing up at the table and is instead choosing to lead via veto. There were many compromises made throughout the legislative session on this bill, and I was hopeful that the Governor would meet us in the middle and sign this bill into law.
“Therefore, the House will vote to override the Governor's veto to ensure we make affordable housing and business development more accessible in all fourteen counties."
