STATEMENT FROM SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE JILL KROWINSKI ON PASSAGE OF J.R.H.1 CALLING FOR PRESIDENT TRUMP TO RESIGN IMMEDIATELY OR BE REMOVED FROM OFFICE

Montpelier, Vt. – Speaker Jill Krowinski today issued the following statement:

“Yesterday, we watched in horror as a mob, incited by President Trump, stormed the U.S. Capitol forcing a halt to the counting of the Electoral College votes. For weeks, the President has berated election officials, made egregious claims of election fraud, and fueled the fire of distrust and doubt in our election process. The barrage of threats and calls for overturning a legally certified election culminated in one of the greatest assaults on our democracy that we have ever witnessed.

Today, the Vermont House of Representatives met and voted on J.R.H.1 condemning the storming of the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021 as an attack on our democracy and calling for President Donald J. Trump to resign or to be removed from office by his Cabinet or by the Congress. This resolution leaves no doubt as to where the General Assembly stands on the violent insurrection that occurred at the United States Capitol and our firm belief that the future of our country is in danger if President Trump remains in Power.”
