Montpelier, VT - The Vermont House today conducted sexual harassment training. The training was conducted by members of Legislative Council in order to ensure that all members, staff, and state house guests are afforded a positive work culture free from harassment.

“Vermonters come to Montpelier as constituents, volunteers, staff and legislators in service to our state. It is our responsibility to ensure a positive work environment free from harassment so that we can each give our best to serve Vermont. Everyone who works or interacts with members of this body should have the resources they need to know their rights and take appropriate action,” said House Speaker Mitzi Johnson. “As a legislative body, we are committed to continually improving our practices. That is why I am working with our legal counsel and members of the Sexual Harassment Prevention Committee to strengthen the policies and reporting procedures and to ensure that we are abiding by a policy that is a gold standard.”

“The legislature takes this issue very seriously” added House Sexual Harassment Prevention Panel Chair, Representative Mollie Burke. “We made significant changes to the Sexual Harassment Prevention policy last year, and we have several additional updates we’d like to make this year. We are currently in the process of making those revisions.”
