HOUSE GIVES PRELIMINARY APPROVAL TO FISCAL YEAR 2019 BUDGET ADJUSTMENT
Montpelier, VT - The Vermont House today gave preliminary approval to the Fiscal Year 2019 Budget Adjustment, H.97, after the bill received unanimous support in the House Appropriations Committee last week.
“All of us should be proud of the fact that Vermont has an established tradition of passing a balanced budget,” said Representative Kitty Toll (D-Danville), chair of the House Appropriations Committee. “The bill prioritizes important one-time investments, including lead testing in schools and strengthened cybersecurity and data infrastructure within the Agency of Digital Services.”
“The budget invests in Vermont families by increasing funds for the Child Care Subsidy Program in the Vermont Department for Children and Families,” added House Speaker Mitzi Johnson (D-South Hero). “Additionally, the bill allocates additional funds to address the increasing cost of winter highway maintenance, ensuring roads remain safe and well-monitored in the critical winter months. We are pleased to work with Treasurer Beth Pearce and the Administration to make a significant investment in paying down the state’s long-term pension obligations. This bill puts us on the right path as we make progress ensuring our state works for all Vermonters. Maintaining fiscal responsibility while looking to our future is essential, and I am proud of the good work the House did on this bill.”
