VERMONT SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE, CHAIR OF WAYS AND MEANS COMMITTEE STATEMENTS ON CHILD TAX CREDIT FOR WORKING FAMILIES
Montpelier, Vt. - Today, Speaker of the House J ill Krowinski and Representative Janet Ancel issued the following statements after the passage of H.510, a bill that would send $1,200 per child to most families with children aged six or under and expands the Social Security deduction for older Vermonters:
“It is critical we continue to work together to support all Vermonters as we recover from pandemic and focus on building resilient communities,” said Speaker Krowinski. “Today’s vote on a child tax credit for working families and tax relief for older Vermonters is a key part of this plan. H.510 will provide needed relief for Vermonters to make payments on their mortgage or rent, buy food and basic essentials, pay for child care, and so much more.
“I want to thank the House Ways and Means Committee and Chair Ancel for their work on this important piece of legislation. We have more legislation in the works to support Vermonters, and I look forward to building a package of policies to support Vermonters in all 14 counties.”
“This bill is an anti-poverty initiative that will make a real difference for families with young children. It also underscores our message that we want young families to stay in or come to Vermont,” said Representative Ancel, Chair of the House Ways and Means Committee. “We got a strong vote in the House and I look forward to continuing our work on getting help to young families, to children and to seniors.”
