HOUSE PASSES BILL TO SIMPLIFY GOVERNMENT FOR SMALL BUSINESSES

The Vermont House today gave unanimous approval to S.85, a bill that simplifies government for small businesses.

“For years, many elected officials, citizens, and businesses have wanted a unified, user-friendly business registration system that incorporates state licenses and permits,” said Representative Matthew Hill (D-Wolcott), a member of the House Commerce & Economic Development Committee. “This bill achieves that goal by asking the Secretary of State’s Office to set up the program that will give Vermont businesses a one-stop portal to easily and efficiently navigate state government as they obtain licenses and permits, make payments, or submit other information related to business requirements in state government.”

“This bill is a win for Vermont small businesses,” added Speaker of the House Mitzi Johnson (D-South Hero). “It is a major first step in creating a simplified system that provides Vermonters with the necessary resources to run a small business in the state. Streamlining state requirements allows our business owners to spend more time managing their companies.

“Small businesses are the economic backbone of our communities across the state. When we streamline state services, we ensure Vermont works for all of us and continues to be the best place to live, work, and do business,” she added.
